Expensive wine is better. You tell me. In blind tastings, scientists asked a group of wine drinkers which were their favorite and the more expensive wines were not the winners. In fact, some of the favorite were among the $15 range – “the sweet spot.” Some of the best Napa Valley wineries, Sonoma wineries, and Russian River wineries are also budget-friendly.
If the label has a chateaux on it, it’s good wine. Not necessarily. In fact, the label is all about marketing. And when you choose your wine based on the “fanciness” of the label – ie: castle images, faux gold dust, etc – you’re just falling for marketing tricks. Look beyond the bling and don’t judge a book by its cover – or a wine by its label.
Famous wines and always the best wines. Again, not always true. Be brave and expand your horizons – great wines come from all over the world. And when it comes to famous brands, don’t be stubborn. Some of the best wines comes from small production, family-owned, and independent wineries. It’s why our California wine tours focus on off-the-beaten path Napa Valley wineries, Sonoma wineries, Russian River wineries and more.
Age-worthy wines must have a cork. Screwcaps actually can age just as well and sometimes better. Just because it has a cork, doesn’t mean it’s more “authentic.” Again, don’t judge a wine by its cap!
Sweet wines are for beginners. No true. Some of the most well rated wines in the world are sweet. In fact, they often appeal to more educated palates. Don’t make tease people for liking sweet wines – it doesn’t make you wine-smart. Try some incredible sweet and dry wines on California wine tours through Napa Valley wineries, Sonoma wineries, Russian River wineries and more!
