Many would argue that this is the most authentic of the region’s wine country areas. And those advocates might have a point, given that the ratio of small family wineries is the highest here. Add to that the lovely rolling green hills, the myriad of trees and the simple rustic charm, and what emerges is an enclave that will absolutely steal your heart.
Our daily Join-in wine tours are designed to show you a picture-perfect day in the Napa Valley or Sonoma region wine country, covering pretty much all the bases. This is a really fun and social way to see a hand-picked selection of backroads wineries that you probably wouldn’t find on your own.

“My mom & I had a great time on our join-in tour! Our group was fun and Greg was a gracious host. We enjoyed touring a variety of vineyards- large and small. Lunch was great and our views from the lunch vineyard were incredible. I’ve already recommended Platypus to a friend and will continue to do so!“

A Platypus wine tour makes for a great social experience; ideal for individual travelers, couples and small groups of friendly people. You’ll share a small group shuttle bus with 8 to 12 wine adventurers (currently limited to 6-8 due to Covid) and visit a selection of small, intimate back roads wineries, carefully chosen by your driver/guide, who will point out notable landmarks and wineries as your travel through this very beautiful region. You can expect to be toured through some of the production areas and walk among the vines of one or more of the wineries. This is not a cookie-cutter package tour – it’s a different serendipitous experience every day; always informative and always fun!
Our Join-In Wine Tour of North Sonoma is priced at $119 per guest ($129 Saturdays). This tour is not offered every day, so please check for availability. Tasting fees at the wineries are not included and are charged extra by the wineries. These fees typically run about $15 per person, per winery. All Join-In Wine Tours include a tasty picnic lunch served by your tour guide/ driver on the grounds of one of the wineries. Our tours usually last from about 10:30am to about 5:00pm. Pick-up is from Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Windsor and Healdsburg (hotels, rentals and from selected meeting spots for those driving in for the day).
Wine Tasting Fees
Tasting fees at the wineries are not included and are charged extra by the wineries, compensating them for the wine they pour for guests. These fees typically run about $15 per person, per winery. Some tasting fees can be higher in the region, but Platypus works hard to cultivate relationships with our winery partners in order to keep the fees at an average of $15 per person, per winery. Because of our partnerships, almost any of the wineries on our Join-In Tours will often waive a tasting fee with a bottle purchase or wine club membership.
You are not required to taste at the wineries, or pay tasting fees for wineries at which you do not taste. There are a couple of wineries that are exceptions to this rule, so if this is your intention, be sure to consult your driver. Most of the wineries we visit will allow our guests to share a tasting.
