Learning About the Auburn James Winery
Auburn James Winery was established in 2005 with a first crush of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from a nearby vineyard. The winery has evolved from a simple handshake agreement between Matthew Ospeck and Winemaker James Frost, who shared the same passion for artisan winemaking and commitment to traditional, painstaking winemaking processes.
Today, Auburn James Winery produces only small lots of the highest-quality Bordeaux-style Napa Valley wines explicitly designed for the Auburn James Wine Club membership.
Located between the Napa River and the Napa Valley Preserve, the Auburn James Winery is situated on the beautiful Auburn Estate at 1001 Silverado Trail South in St. Helena in the heart of Napa Valley.
At the beginning of each growing season, owners Jim & Matt inspect the vineyards and begin visualizing what they hope to create for their Club Members. Since the ultimate characteristics of each vintage are subject to the twists and turns of Mother Nature during each growing season, these experienced hands make decisions during the winemaking process that are motivated by their target quality objectives.
The Auburn James Winery professionals carefully select their grapes from preferred independent growers throughout Napa Valley and the North Coast at harvest. This careful selection of raw material allows the winemaker to produce wines that match their objectives and, as it happens, earning several awards along the way.
