Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Silenus Vintners is one of Napa’s few multi-winery operations, offering winemakers and vineyard owners the unique opportunity to produce their wines in its facility – many of which are represented in the joint tasting room.
Silenus is currently home to fifteen of the Valley’s most sought after boutique wineries who collectively produce more than 30 wines from some of the best known vineyards in Napa and Sonoma Valleys. It is a refreshing new concept of a “cooperative” where very tiny production winemakers (200 or so cases per year) rent the use of an existing winery’s equipment and storage facilities for their aging barrels, and has a tasting staff to sell their bottles to the public.
The name Silenus comes from Greek mythology – Silenus, known to be exceptionally wise and gentle, was the son of Hermes and the teacher and faithful companion of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine.
“The man who does not enjoy drinking wine is mad.” – Silenus
We love bringing people here on our Platypus Wine Tours because Silenus offers a chic tasting room, exquisite hand-crafted and hard-to-find Artisan wines, many different varietals rarely distributed outside of the Bay Area, incredible quality, beautiful surroundings, a bocce court and great picnic grounds.
Tastings at Silenus Vintners are scheduled by appointment only, or as part of a Platypus Wine Tour – just let us know your desire to visit this great winery.
