Owned since the 1980's by the MacDonnell family, the 468 acre estate is sustainably farmed with vineyards, olive trees and culinary gardens. Estate vineyards give the winemaker complete control over all aspects of the winemaking process, as evidenced by the spectacular wines produced here.
Nestled high on a hill, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectacular view overlooking the Rutherford bench of Napa Valley. In 1972, while the rest of the world was just beginning to take notice of Napa Valley, the founders of Rutherford Hill recognized a unique opportunity; they believed that the climate and soil of the valley, similar to Pomerol, were well suited to Merlot and were among the first to pioneer what has become Napa's premier varietal.
"It takes Rutherford dust to make great Cabernet" has often been quoted, and Rutherford Ranch is located in the middle of this storied AVA (American Viticultural Area). All vineyards are certified sustainably farmed.
