Sonoma’s Wine Regions

Northern California is home to the amazing wine region of Sonoma Valley. Healdsburg wineries and Russian River wineries are just two of the 400 plus wineries located in this wine country and each are unique and special to the area. Just a short 45 minute to 1 hour drive from San Francisco, you can escape the traffic and city life for a getaway to the vineyards. In the wine community Sonoma and its coast, are well known for its various American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). Some of the most well-known Pinot Noir varietals are produced right here in Sonoma. With it being one of Sonoma’s most popular grapes at a planted 13,000 acres, Pinot Noir has begun to take the main stage for producers in the area. The diversity in the terroir in this region allows for winemakers to create an array of amazing varietals.

Not only does the Sonoma Coast showcase some impeccable wine, but the other AVAs in the vicinity are noteworthy as well! If you travel north in Sonoma County you will stumble upon Healdsburg, a small wine city with a population less than 15,000. Wine takes center stage in this city as it is filled with fun restaurant, tasting rooms, and things wine in their downtown area.

The Healdsburg wineries in this area are very well known and a must visit if you are looking to continue the Northern California wine experience. The charm of this small town adds to the unique tastings that wineries offer to make for a very different experience to its Napa competitors. Some Healdsburg wineries include Gary Farrell, Sapphire Hill, Gracianna, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek, and the list goes on and on for incredible wineries to visit.

Healdsburg lies within the Russian River AVA in Northern California, which is known for award winning chardonnay. In fact a lot of the big producers in the winemaking game source their chardonnay grapes from this area. The Russian River wineries lie within cool climates that allow for an abundant amount of Chardonnay grapes to grow.
