Wineries And Regions

Napa and Sonoma Wine Tasting Regions

Located north of San Francisco, California, our Northern California Wine Country features hundreds of amazing wineries located primarily in the Napa Valley, (including Napa, Oakvillie, Rutherford, St. Helena, Calistoga and Carneros) the Sonoma Valley, (Including Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Kenwood), and North Sonoma County, (including Russian River, Healdsburg, Dry Creek, Alexander Valley and West Side).

These areas offer extraordinary climate and soils for producing world-class wines. Each of these regions is in itself an extremely popular destination for wine tasting. The natural beauty of our local wine country, with rolling landscapes, beautiful vineyards and rugged hills, provides a spectacular setting for visiting local wineries, tasting fantastic wines and enjoying many fine dining restaurants.

The wineries in these lists are visited by both our Join-In and Private Tours. While these are comprehensive groupings of some of the wineries we’re able to visit (and recommend), they don’t necessarily represent a complete list of them – there are numerous other wineries in the North Bay.

Napa Valley Wineries

Even though there are over 450 wineries located in Napa Valley, it’s estimated that 80% of Napa wine tourists visit the same 20 or so wineries. Platypus Napa Wine Tours take you off the beaten path to find smaller wineries with a real personal touch and real charm. View our favorite Napa Valley Wineries.

Sonoma Valley Wineries

Our guides hand-pick the most compelling wineries in the Sonoma Valley for our Sonoma Wine Tours. This is a very historic and beautiful area and we have many interesting stories to tell about it. Our goal is to avoid the crowds and find the more intimate side – and the real charm – of this magnificent wine country. View our favorite Sonoma Valley Wineries.

St. Helena and Calistoga Wineries

Widely known as the heart of Napa Valley, St. Helena and nearby Calistoga are home to many historic wineries and world-class wines. Enjoy the friendly, charming communities of St. Helena and Calistoga, and take advantage of the hot springs resorts of Calistoga and the region’s best restaurants for a relaxing weekend getaway.
